GILDAS PARÉ
PHOTOGRAPHER ARTIST
HIS History
A Journey to the Heart of Social and Ecological Issues
Gildas Paré is a committed photographer and artist who explores social, environmental and human issues through his series. His project Food Waste (2010–2022) denounces food waste by combining aesthetics and a critique of overconsumption. With images of destroyed food, he encourages the viewer to reflect on the environmental impact of waste.
In Street Food (2011–2013), Gildas Paré captures street eaters through anthropological portraits, revealing cultures and social classes. This work earned him the Grand Prix de la Photographie de l'Alimentation. Submersio (2011–2015) explores natural disasters, notably storm Xynthia, using poetry and images to question the fragility of our territories in the face of rising ocean levels.
With Plastic Dream (2015–…), Gildas Paré discusses “breast ironing” in Cameroon, a cultural ritual that raises questions about femininity and body control. In Pleasure & Pain (2014–…), he explores the border between these two emotions, capturing portraits of individuals going through extreme experiences.
Finally, in KIPOZ Project (2024), GPK (Gildas Paré Kipoz) explores the links between nature and technology through evocative visuals, blending reality and illusion. Fascinated by the supernatural, he creates “Photographic Tableaux” that provoke introspection on our relationship with the visible and the invisible. His work is inspired by the Language of Birds, Tarot, and alchemy, offering a philosophical look at the human soul. His influences include Carl Gustav Jung, Jiddu Krishnamurti, Caspar David Friedrich, and filmmakers such as David Lynch. His works invite a profound exploration of existence.
